The previous wording described what an AI-assisted commit looks like
without saying the trailer is mandatory, which left it readable as a
convention for substantial changes only. The marker is what lets a
reader tell which work came from an agent, so it has to hold across all
of it -- an exemption for trivial commits makes the absence of the
trailer meaningless. The same reasoning closed a matching gap in how
agents comment on PRs, where a single disclaimer on a review body left
eleven inline comments unmarked.

An agent review of PR #4065 posted twelve comments and eight had to be
withdrawn. Most were output of a decompdiff corpus sweep run against the
PR branch, which measures the whole decompiler rather than the diff, and
one called a cast a regression when it was the correct emission -- the
old form compiled only because C# target-types the switch expression.
The guide lives in .github/ rather than inline because most sessions
never review anything and should not carry it, and because it is as
useful to a human reviewer as to an agent. CLAUDE.md keeps only the two
rules that have to hold before you have decided you are reviewing at
all, plus the pointer.

Both tools have found real decompiler defects (several merged fixes came out of
nugetfuzz sweeps), but they only existed in a private checkout, so nobody else
could run them and their setup knowledge lived in one head. They complement the
fixture suite from the other side: it decompiles code we wrote, these decompile
what the world ships.
They stay outside the solution - file-based apps, run by hand, never by CI - and
the near-empty Directory.Build.props/Directory.Packages.props keep the repo-wide
warnings-as-errors, lock-file and central-package-management settings from
reaching them.
The catalog sweep driver is PowerShell rather than bash so it runs on Windows as
well, which also drops its curl/jq dependency; staging falls back to copying when
Windows withholds symlink privileges, and report file names are hash-truncated to
stay inside the 260-character path limit.

The decompiler's intermediate representation was reachable only through the
GUI's ILAst language, so anyone debugging a transform or a matcher had to do it
by hand in the UI. --ilast writes the same representation to stdout, and
--after-transform truncates the pipeline at a chosen point, which makes the
effect of a single transform diffable and scriptable.
Debug-only, like the UI language it mirrors: ILAst serves ILSpy's own
development, not the users of the released tool, so it stays out of the shipped
NuGet package and out of the README's option list.
Nested per-block transforms stay unaddressable: they run inside a
BlockILTransform entry, and reaching them needs the Stepper, which is compiled
out of release builds anyway.

Mandating that follow-up fixes be squashed back into the commit they
amend forces a rewrite of already-pushed branch history, which churns
review threads on open PRs. How to sequence branch commits is left to

Make the repo-root pwsh scripts the mandated path for restore/build/update-deps/
format/clean/publish, and explain why: the bare dotnet commands prune the
packages.lock.json files (the recurring spurious lock-file diff). Add two code
conventions -- comments must read without any knowledge of the session that
wrote them, and edits made outside the session must not be reverted without
confirmation. Drop the "Framework-specific gotchas" section, which only covered
a few narrow UI control quirks.

Replace the Windows-only .bat helpers (clean / debugbuild / releasebuild /
restore / updatedeps and BuildTools/format) with cross-platform pwsh
scripts at the repo root: restore.ps1, build.ps1 (-Configuration), clean.ps1,

Enable a packages.lock.json for every project by hoisting
RestorePackagesWithLockFile into the root Directory.Build.props (the four
core libraries set it individually before) and commit the generated locks,
so restores are repeatable and CI can cache packages off them.
Cache the NuGet packages folder in the three setup-dotnet workflows
(build-ilspy, build-frontends, codeql-analysis), keyed on the lock files
per the setup-dotnet caching guidance.
Scope the Debug "Verify package contents" check to the *.filelist outputs
it actually generates. A project's packages.lock.json is keyed only by
(framework, RID), with no host-OS axis, so a lock produced on Linux
legitimately differs from one produced on Windows whenever an OS-conditional
PackageReference applies (Debug+Windows pulls Microsoft.DiaSymReader*). The
Windows restore then rewrites those locks; that churn must not fail a step
whose job is to police the VSIX/MSI file lists.
Also drop the dead ILSpy.BamlDecompiler publish line from
publishlocaldev.ps1, mirroring the earlier publish.ps1 fix.

Make explicit what was only implied: the pre-commit hook IS the formatter, so
always let it run and never commit .cs with --no-verify (bypassing it is what
lets unformatted code accumulate). Scope the "new files must be CRLF" rule to
Windows -- on Linux/macOS that fights the repo's text=auto LF storage and makes
the whole tree look phantom-modified. Update the test example to the
Microsoft.Testing.Platform syntax the repo now pins. The parity-tracker line is
dropped (that tracker is on its way out).
